Our Sixth Annual Hug Detroit Spirit Awards has become one of the highlights of the year. It's our opportunity, each year, to pay tribute to the super Detroit spirits, super fans, artist and supporters that have supported Detroit's vision of giving, teaching, and promoting good, positive light all year long.   Producing quality events, in front and, behind the scenes caring for our youth, and elder neighbors with love and humility. All nominees are an inspiration. Constantly showing love, light and hope to those who need it the most. The SPIRIT of Detroit are REAL!!! As we aspire to keep this movement of appreciation going, year after year. This year we would like to present our Lifetime Achievement Award to the legendary Sherry Scott, original female founder and member of Earth, Wind & Fire (https://youtu.be/8Amu-AVK2mQ), and Executive Producer/Multi-Media Journalist at Pulsebeat.tv, Greg Dunmore (https://youtu.be/ttZkVYonh1U).

Along with being a fantastic party and talent showcase, the Sixth Annual HUG Detroit Spirit Awards this year is celebrating Detroit's Risen Angels. In loving memory of and, Honoring: Bubz Fiddler, Lady Day, Terry Thunder Hughley, Marcus Bellgrave, Orthea Barnes, Pete Peterson and Ron Priest. Also for this year’s talent showcase, we present some of the best talent in town. 

The Process begin each year. Our staff, partners, neighbors and supporters nominate their special spirits of Detroit by way of emails, and letters. There is no competition. Your nomination is an automatic win. Cheers to our SPIRIT AWARD RECIPIENTS of 2017. 

HUG Detroit started in August of 2013. It is the birth child of Sky Covington, who shared her desire and passion to take one day out of the year to HUG Detroit and its people. To acknowledge the great accomplishments of this great city and the people there-in and to thank those who stayed through the storm. Also let’s not forget those who came to help us rise above and excel as we create a New Detroit and new ways of being. Just a bunch of us Detroiters, doing things together. Sky says, “Let’s get back to the days of hugs and handshakes”.
